The book Special Cadre

The book Special Cadre

The book Special Cadre (published by Čigoja štampa and the Film Center of Serbia) is a collection of personal histories of film journalists and critics from the region. Whence came the Special Cadre among us, among you, among them...? Truly, whence...

The short answer could be: once upon a time there was a country and a certain culture in it, and in the culture film, the seventh art. But we live in the age of short written messages, so on this occasion the book announcement fits the spirit of the times.

Special Cadre is a legend about legends, a story about film critics and journalists who wrote and continue to write about motion pictures from the mid-20th century to the beginning of the new millennium. First and foremost, the book is dedicated to colleagues who are no longer with us, our acquaintances and friends with whom we shared the same passion and who, in a way, were role models for many from our selected Special Cadre ranks.

The 367-page book contains essays by chroniclers of domestic and international films, enhanced by their photo-portraits. A total of 52 individuals and 49 authors are presented. The presented journalists and critics are: Bora Anđelić, Ivan Aranđelović, Slobodan Aranđelović, Đorđe Bajić, Maja Volk, Goran Gocić, Zorica Dimitrijević, Nenad Dukić, Dragomir Zupanc, Dragan Jovićević, Petar Jončić, Vladimir Lazarević, Saša Markuš, Nevena Matović, Gordana Milosavljević Stojanović, Milan Nikodijević, Tatjana Nježić, Svetlana Paroški, Saša Radojević, Jasna Rajić, Jelica Stojančić, Goran Terzić, Milica Tomić, Božidar Zečević, Stefan Arsenijević, pisali Radoslav Zelenović, Ivan Karl, Predrag Dragosavac, Vladislav Bajac, Lada Bunjac Tončić, Mirjana Ognjanović, Vojka Pajkić Đorđević, Nevena Daković, Miloš Đukelić, Miljana Kralj, Radovan Kupres, Đeze Bordaš, Novo Tomić, Ana Janković, Omer Karabeg, Srđan Vučinić, Nevena Đonlić, Vladimir Džudović, Emina Ćirić, Nikola Lorencin, Dejan Dabić, Predrag Milojević, Una Čolić Banzić.

Omaži: Dragan Babić, Vladimir Bunjac, Milan Vlajčić, Dubravka Vojvodić, Branko Vučićević, Nebojša Đukelić, Snežana Zarić, Bogdan Kalafatović, Radmila Mila Kodemo, Aleksandar D. Kostić, Ištvan Ladi, Milan Mitić, Ranko Munitić, Danka Nikolić, Slobodan Novaković, Nevenka Opačić, Vuk Pavlović, Verica Petkovska, Nebojša Popović, Nikola Stojanović, Bogdan Tirnanić, Čaba Torok, Dinko Tucaković, Irma Flis, Severin Franić, Milan D. Špiček, Milutin Čolić. Why read and retell? Truly, why… The book can be read in all directions, from cover to cover, skipping parts, by author, or essay writer about others. The Special cadre got its own book, a chronicle of time, a diary of everyday life, a horizontal and vertical endurance of hardships and passions, a reminiscence of experiences at festivals in Berlin, Cannes, Palić, Pula, Niš, Vrnjačka Banja, Venice... Belgrade.

And a lesson: if anything is to move us from the whirlwind of the present and the darkness of oblivion, it will be culture. Every film, above all, lives in the eyes of the viewers.

Just like a book lives in the eyes of the readers. Special Cadre Editorial Board: Jelica Stojančić, Tatjana Nježić, Gordana Milosavljević Stojanović, Nevena Matović, Borislav Anđelić and Ivan Aranđelović. The Film Center of Serbia supported this edition as part of the "Friend of the Book" program.
