The bleak geopolitical future of our continent is more certain than ever since World War II. Despite the awareness of this fact, the focus of European documentary film directors is directed towards universal and still underrepresented topics such as the exploitation of underage labor, social justice, the issue of individual freedoms outside the collective. From debutantes to acclaimed authors, this selection directs us to, and just as the title of Allona Van Der Horst's film says, "turn our body and our eyes towards the sun", if we don't see the outlines of the future more clearly, often through the prism of the past, because they , as our recent history has shown, always intertwine in Europe. Believing in the ability of human beings to rationalize their reality in an attempt to shed light on and overcome problems, the directors of documentary films in this selection review and treat the drama of individual destinies in different stylistic ways (Untold story of Fatma Kayaci, Turn your body to the sun, One second forever) and on the other hand, socially engaged topics concerning collectivity (For the many, If you are a man). The directors, regardless of whether they are debutants or already celebrated authors of European films such as Wit Klusak and Allona Van Der Horst, show great maturity and commitment in the choice of themes and stylistic approach.
