The ABIFF – Animation Bucharest International Film Festival represents an impactful event that turns Romania into a true celebration of animation. Through simultaneous screenings in multiple cities across the country, the festival brings to the forefront the power and magic of animation, with a particular focus on promoting art as a tool against discrimination.

The festival has a special section dedicated to promoting tolerance and diversity among the audience. Through screenings, constructive discussions, and special guests, the festival aims to draw attention to these values and provide a platform for new voices in the field of animation. The ABIFF Animation Film Festival is also a meeting place for exceptional European and international productions that aim to delight both children, with enchanting and humorous stories, and adults, with the values and messages conveyed by authorial animated films.

The festival program includes several sections. The Short Film Competition, featuring films made in the past two years, is the main event of the festival. This competition is accompanied by screenings of authorial feature films in a non-competitive section called ABIFF AnimaXperience, as well as screenings of classic animated films in the Classic Animation Showcase. For the youngest viewers, the festival presents special screenings of films for preschoolers in the ABIFF KidsLand category. In addition to screenings, the festival also organizes a masterclass in animation, providing enthusiasts and professionals in the field with an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in this creative domain.

In 2021, the festival offered an unforgettable experience by organizing film screenings for 75 days and workshops for high school students in 31 cities across the country. In 2022, ingenious animations were presented in 15 cities in just three days. In 2023, the festival invites the audience to become partners and carry the story forward, turning animation into their voice against discrimination, while enjoying a unique and inspiring cinematic experience.

As part of the Europe 4 Kids pre-festival program, eight short films were screened from July 1st 7th at the Eurocinema: THE LITTLE HERO, SIGH (OF!), O28, TARANTELLA, PARDON!, RISING IN A SPIRAL, ABIFF and L’AMOUR EN PLAN.

During the official program of the festival, as part of special screenings, the feature-length animated comedy CLOSE ENOUGH will be screened (cinema Abazija, Monday July 17 from 3 p.m.)
