New European Documentaries and Eco Dox programs at the 31st Palić

The programs New European Documentaries, showcasing the best documentaries from the European continent, and Eco Dox, a program based on European documentary films dedicated to the challenges of environmental protection, will be presented as part of the 31st European Film Festival Palić, which will be held from July 20 to 26, 2024 in Palić and Subotica. The programmer of both sections is Igor Toholj.

The films A Place in the Sun by Mette Carla Albrechtsen (Denmark, Sweden), April in France by David Boaretto (France), Sting like a Bee by Leone Balduzzi (Italy, France), Stray Bodies by Elina Psykou (Greece, Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria) and Zinzindurrunkarratz by Oskar Alegria (Spain) will be screened in the New European Documentaries section.

“The films from the New European Documentaries section do not represent a completely objective picture of today’s world. Their topics are mostly personal or can seem separate, but they reflect pieces of an occasionally bizarre universe in which we are still connected to each other,” said the programmer Igor Toholj.

The program Eco Dox will showcase the films Forest by Lidia Duda (Poland, Czech Republic), Gerlach by Aliona van der Horst (Netherlands), Holding up the Sky by Pieter Van Eecke (Belgium, Netherlands, Brazil), Planet Slivova by Vladimir Perović (Serbia), The World According to My Dad by Marta Kovářová (Czech Republic) and Where We Used to Sleep by Matthäus Wörle (Germany).

Regarding this selection Igor Toholj said: “This year’s Eco Dox section is made up of 6 documentaries whose protagonists offer alternatives, both in the way of life and the approach to the current problems of planet Earth. They boldly broaden the horizons, seeing the forest instead of a tree.”

On July 24, as part of the accompanying program of the festival, an environmental panel discussion will traditionally be held. This time, the topic “Climate changes – changing the environmental awareness of the public” will be discussed from the point of view of cinematography.

The 31st edition of the European Film Festival Palić will be held from July 20 to 26, 2024, in Palić and Subotica. The audience will have the opportunity to watch more than 140 films in 17 selections, and over a hundred film professionals from the country and abroad, who will be staying in Palić, will participate in the festival program.

The Palić European Film Festival has been supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, the City of Subotica, the European Union through the Creative Europe MEDIA program, as well as numerous friends and media partners.

Gorky List has been a sponsor and supporter of the Palić European Film Festival for more than 20 years, both as an indispensable part of our artistic scenography and a partner that encourages the audience to delve into the experiences of the showcased films through the Gorky List Audience Award.
