The Gorki List Audience Award of the 31st European Film Festival Palić was awarded to Emilija Gašić’s film “78 Days”, which was screened in the Official Selection program.
The film begins in March, 1999, in a small town in Serbia. After their father leaves for the army, sisters Sonja (17) and Dragana (15) start a video diary. Days pass as they record the peaceful nature around them, the trembling night sky during air raids and the teasing of their seven-year-old sister, Tijana. Things change when a mysterious boy and his shy, younger sister arrive from Belgrade and move into the neighbor's house. Soon, new friendships, first kisses, and first disappointments replace the fear of bombs.
The Gorki List Audience Award for the film "78 Days" was presented by Aleksandra Ercegovac, digital marketing manager of Gorki List and VODAVODA, who addressed the audience with the words: "Gorki List has a long-standing tradition of supporting art and culture. For the past 28 years, we have proudly stood by this festival, contributing to its success and completion. In addition to considering the expert jury’s opinion, we also took into account the perspectives of the numerous audience who have loyally supported this festival over the years".
Through this year’s 31st edition of the European Film Festival Palić, the longstanding partnership between Gorki List and the Festival continues. As a loyal partner of the European Film Festival Palić for 28 years, Gorki List enriches the festival atmosphere, encouraging viewers to think, react, and observe the world around them with heightened awareness!
The Gorki List Audience Award allows the audience to take an active role and from their own perspective view the works of film art presented at the festival. In this way, in addition to the opinions of the expert jury, the festival also respects the opinions of its most numerous ‘jury’ – those whose loyalty and dedication to cinema have sustained the festival throughout the years.
Recognizing that the audience’s criteria for choosing the best film often differ from those of the expert jury, the European Film Festival and Gorki List encouraged festival visitors to vote for their favorite film from the rich selection of European cinema screened at this year's 31st film festival. The Gorki List Audience Award, now in its ninth consecutive year, has accurately captured the audience's preferences. The winning film receives a specially designed statue.
Previous laureates of this award include the Hungarian film "Kills on Wheels", directed by Attila Till, in 2016, the film "On Body and Soul" by director Ildikó Enyedi in 2017, the Belgian-Dutch co-production "Girls” in 2018, the film "Les Miserables" by French director Ladj Ly in 2019, "The Name of the People" by Darko Bajić in 2020, "Impure Blood - Sin of Ancestors" by Milutin Petrović in 2021, "Close" by Lukas Dhont in 2022, and last year "The Old Oak" by Ken Loach.
