The Serbian premiere of the Cannes winner

The film "The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent" by Croatian director Nebojša Slijepčević, winner of the Short Film Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival, will have its Serbian premiere at the 31st European Film Festival Palić. It will be shown as part of the "Young Spirit of Europe" program on July 24, during the short film segment starting at 10 p.m. at the Abazija Cinema.

The film "The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent" takes place on February 27, 1993, at a small station in Štrpci in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A passenger train from Belgrade to Bar is stopped by paramilitary forces in an ethnic cleansing operation. As they haul off innocent civilians, only one man out of 500 passengers dares to stand up to them. The script, written by director Nebojša Slijepčević, is based on a true story. The film's cast includes Goran Bogdan, Alexis Manenti, Dragan Mićanović, Silvio Mumelaš, Lara Nekić, Priska Ugrina, Dušan Gojić, Nebojša Pop Tasić, Mijo Pavelko, Martin Kuhar, Jakov Zovko and Robert Ugrina.

Director Nebojša Slijepčević (1973) has directed two successful feature-length documentaries ("Gangster of Love" and "Srbenka"), as well as numerous short documentary and feature films screened at world festivals, where they won more than 40 awards. He won the Vladimir Nazor annual award for film art in 2018, and that same year he also won the DOC Alliance Award in Cannes for his feature-length documentary "Srbenka". This film also won the Heart of Sarajevo award in the category of documentary film, and was a candidate for the best documentary film in the selection of the European Film Academy.

The 31st European Film Festival Palić will be held from July 20 to 26, 2024, in Palić and Subotica. At this year’s edition of the festival, the audience will have the opportunity to watch 150 films divided into 17 sections, and over a hundred film professionals from the country and abroad, who will be staying in Palić, will participate in the festival program. The Palić European Film Festival has been supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, the City of Subotica, the European Union through the Creative Europe MEDIA program, as well as numerous friends and media partners.
