Palić European Film Festival award Underground Spirit to Ada Solomon

Romanian producer Ada Solomon is the winner of this year's Underground Spirit Award assigned by the European Film Festival Palić for exceptional work in the field of independent film, as well as for the unique approach to film language and authentic authorial poetics built off the mainstream of film industry.

Ada Solomon has produced films presented and awarded at the most prestigious festivals, including "Bad Luck or Crazy Pornography" by Radu Jude, that won the Golden Bear at 2021 Berlin FF, "Aferim!" (Radu Jude, 2015, Silver Bear, Berlin), “Child’Pose” (Calin Peter Netzer, 2013, Golden Bear, Berlin). She was in charge of production for projects such as "Callas Forever" by Franco Zaffirelli and "Toni Erdmann" by Maren Ada, Oscar nominated film.

Neil Young, selector of the "Young Spirit of Europe" and "Parallels and Encounters" programs at the Palić European Film Festival, explained this award: " In the last 25 years only one producer has been responsible for two Golden Bear winners at the Berlinale: Romania's Ada Solomon was the organisational force behind both Radu Jude's Bad Luck Banging Or Loony Porn, which landed the prize this February, and also Cãlin Peter Netzer's Child's Pose, the 2013 laureate. To win two Golden Bears is rare enough; to do so via two different directors is truly a historic achievement. Solomon, responsible for numerous films shown at EFF down the years, is truly a force of nature on the producing scene. We are thrilled to recognize her achievement so far, while anticipating decades of delights still to come."

The laureate of the award will also be presented trough the Homage program, with "Aferim!", "Toni Erdmann" and "Child’s Pose".

The Underground Spirit Award, established in 2008, has so far been assigned to F.J. Osan, German director Uli M. Schüppel, local director Želimir Žilnik, Norwegian  Joern Utkilen, Swedish directorial tandem Ol Simonson and Johan S. Nilsson, French animator Edouard Salier, Hungarian super-8 duo - Bukharov Brothers, artistic group which the British film magazine Sight & Sound called "Electric Riders of the Apocalypse", and the Yugoslav and Slovenian directors of photography and director, one of the founders of the black wave Karpo Godina, French animator, director and visual artist Bertrand Mandico, Italian director and screenwriter Tizza Covi and Austrian director and photographer Rainer Frimmel. Last year's award winner was French director Jean Charles I, while last year's winner was the Italian director and editor Sara Fgaier.
