Accompanying Program of the 28th European Film Festival Palić

The accompanying program of the 28th Palić European Film Festival, held from 17 to 23 July, organized by the Open University Subotica, includes workshops for bloggers, vloggers, influencers, film critics and documentarians, book promotions and film exhibitions, a round table dedicated to Slovenian cinema, concerts, graffiti creation workshops and eco panel discussions.

This year, for the first time at Palić, festival network MIOB workshop (Moving Images Open Borders) is organized for bloggers, vloggers and influencers from 6 countries. This way, EFF follows the modern trends in media coverage of the Festival, addressing new and young audiences, which is just getting familiar with the richness of European auteur film.

Film critics’ workshop, which brings together 9 young critics from 6 countries, is led by Neil Young, programmer of the Parallels and Encounters and Young Spirit of Europe Festival programs.

Educational program How to Watch a Film - Small School of Bonton is a workshop aimed for 10 to 15 year old children dedicated to education in the field of audiovisual culture and art. The intention is to encourage cinema attending culture and the culture of watching audiovisual content, but also to support the participants’ consciousness by theoretical knowledge from the mentioned areas. Project’s author team consists of program coordinators Zoran Janković and Đordje Bajić, project organizer Nemanja Boškov and project coordinator Nevena Đonlić.

DOKSrbija documentary film workshop at the Palić Film Festival is a part of the annual workshops program organized by the association. Their goal is to encourage and support decentralization of the national documentary scene by cooperating with film festivals throughout Serbia. DOKSrbija workshop at the Palić Festival is focused on current events in documentaries, production aspects of international projects, primarily between countries of different production capacity, as well as the transition to online environment during the phases of project development and distribution.

A book - Neda Arnerić: From Dream to Reality, and Back - will be promoted at the Festival, and inform readers about details of the famous actress' life and introduce them to the magic she spread on the big screen. The author of the book, journalist Tatjana Nježić, managed to show not only the acting portrait of Neda Arnerić, but also to depict her journey from dream to reality, and back. Aleksandar Đuričić's book Glogi, about a doyen of Serbian theater, Nebojša Glogovac, will also be presented. Readers will be able to find testimonies of his closest friends, as well as his unpublished songs, he wrote just for his spiritual joy. The program dedicated to publishing completes with presentation of an anthology Writers in Cinema: Literary History of Our Film Experiences by our prominent filmmaker Slobodan Šijan. The book brings selection of texts by Serbian and regional writers, who, from a very personal perspective, write about the phenomenon of film.

Exhibition Traces of a Time - 1945-1970 Film Posters is dedicated to film posters from the Serbian Film Center’s holdings and archives. 50 film posters made in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s were selected for the exhibition, and they represent significant works of Yugoslav cinema, such as Feather Gatherers, When I Am Dead and Gone, Early Works, The March of Drina, Captain Leshi and many others.

At a round table Achievements of Current Slovenian Cinema the focus will be on artistic achievements, cultural policy and production aspects of Slovenian cinema today, with special reference to films and authors from Slovenia in Focus program of the European Film Festival Palić. Participants will also talk about film art in Slovenia in the Yugoslav period and the contribution of prominent actress Milena Zupančič, 2021 EFF Palić laureate. The program, led by Dr. Ivana Kronja, filmologist, film critic and coordinator of the Slovenian Film Days, brings together filmmakers and creators from Slovenia, representatives of Serbian Film Center and EFF Palić representatives.

During the festival, the audiences will be able to follow a concert program in Abazija, with Gordan’s Blues Ghetto, Perpetuum Mobile, E-Play, Nafta and other bands and performers.

Within the Panona Net project, in cooperation with the City of Vukovar, the Open University Subotica organizes two workshops on creating graffiti on canvas. The first workshop is held from 16 to 19 July during the 28th Palić European Film Festival. The goal of the workshop on creating graffiti on canvas is cooperation, exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as the creation of graffiti on canvas inspired by film. During the 4-day workshop, graffiti artists from Subotica will attend live performances from Vukovar, where the organizers of the VukovArt festival and artists from Croatia will share their experiences in making graffiti and murals. After the workshop, the created graffiti on canvas will be exhibited on the Great Terrace in Palić.

One of the accompanying programs is a panel discussion The Concept of Waste Management in the Region of Subotica and the EU Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, in line with the orientation of the Palić European Film Festival to address issues of environmental importance, especially Lake Palić.

This year, the twenty-eighth edition of the Palić European Film Festival is held in the traditional Festival term, from 17 to 23 July in Palić and Subotica, organized by the Open University Subotica. This year, the festival is held at several locations, including the unique Summer Stage in Palić, as well as the Eurocinema, Abazija and Lifka cinema theaters. During the pre-festival program and the central part of the event, the audience will be presented with more than 130 films from all over the Europe, in 15 different sections and program units. Many of the films will have their Serbian and regional premiere here in Palić.
