The film “Kinds of Kindness” by the famous Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos will open the 31st Festival

The 31st European Film Festival Palić will be held from July 20 to 26, 2024, in Palić and Subotica. At this year’s festival, the audience will have the opportunity to watch 150 films (21 in the pre-festival program and 129 in the main festival program, divided into 17 sections), and over a hundred film professionals from the country and abroad, who will be staying in Palić, will participate in the festival program.

At the press conference regarding the festival, the program was presented by Dušan Kovačević, president of the Festival Council, Radoslav Zelenović, director, Miroslav Mogorović, program director and Ilija Tatić, executive producer.

This year’s Official Selection of the European Film Festival Palić comprises of the following films: “78 Days” (Serbia) directed by Emilije Gašić, “A Good Jewish Boy” (France) by Noé Debré, “Andrea’s Love” (Spain) by Manuel Martín Cuenca, “Celebration” (Croatia) by Bruno Anković, “The Girl with the Needle” (Denmark) by Magnus von Horn, “Kalman’s Day” (Hungary) by Szabolcs Hajdu, “Kinds of Kindness” (Ireland) by Yorgos Lanthimos, “Light Falls” (Georgia) by Phedon Papamichael, “Sons” (Denmark) by Gustav Möller, “The Magnet Man” (Belgium) by Gust Van den Berghe, “The Second Act” (France) by Quentin Dupieux, and “When the Light Breaks” by Runar Runarsson.

The film “Kinds of Kindness” by the famous Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos will open the festival, premiering in Serbia only a couple of months after its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is a triptych that follows a man without many options trying to take control of his life; a police officer who is upset that his wife has returned as a completely different person after her disappearance, and a woman determined to find someone special with unusual skills. It stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley and Hong Chau.

The selector of the Official Selection is Nikolaj Nikitin, and the jury consists of Bojan Vuletić –  director (Serbia), Bettina Brokemper – producer (Germany) and Liana Ruokytė-Jonsson – the Cultural Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania in the Kingdom of Sweden.

In the Parallels and Encounters competition program the following films will be screened: “8 Views of Lake Biwa” (Estonia) directed by Marko Raat, “Bosnian Pot” (Croatia) by Pavo Marinković, “Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania” (Lithuania) by Tomas Vengris, “Forever-Forever” (Ukraine) by Anna Buryachkova, “Hesitation Wound” (Turkey) by Selman Nacar, “In the Face of Gravity” (Hungary) Fésős András, “KYUKA Before Summer’s End” (Greece) Kostis Charamountanis, “Panopticon” (Georgia) by George Sikharulidze, “Song of Goats” (Poland) by Andrzej Jakimowski and “Tiny Lights” (Czech Republic) by Beata Parkanová.

Julia Sinkevych is the programmer of the "Parallels and Encounters" competition program, and its jury members are David Castellanos – producer (Spain), Natalija Avramović – director (Serbia) and Constantinos Nikiforou – director (Cyprus).

The FIPRESCI jury, the jury of the International Federation of Film Critics of the 31st Palić European Film Festival consists of Bettina Hirsch (Germany), Pierre-Yves Roger (France) and Stojan Sinadinov (North Macedonia).

In addition to the film program, all visitors to Palić can expect a rich accompanying program this year as well. An exhibition dedicated to a legend of the Serbian theater, Bata Živojinović, will be set up in the gallery of the Open University of Subotica, and on each evening during the festival there will be concerts in the garden of the Abazija cinema. In the professional part of the festival several events will be organized: an international film criticism workshop with participants from nine countries, a panel discussion on the position of women in the film industry, as well as an Arthouse celluloid cinematography workshop led by the Spanish artist Carla Andrade. The program will also feature an exhibition of portrait caricatures, book promotions and panel discussions.

The Aleksandar Lifka Awards for outstanding contribution to European cinema will, in accordance with tradition, be presented at the 31st edition of the European Film Festival Palić, and this year's winners of the prestigious award are actress Anica Dobra in the category of domestic creators, director of photography Phedon Papamichael in the category of foreign creators, and director Ademir Kenović, who will be awarded the regional Lifka Award.

The Palić European Film Festival has been supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, the City of Subotica, the European Union through the Creative Europe MEDIA program, as well as numerous friends and media partners.
