Set during World War II in a remote village at the crossroads of Serbia, Montenegro, and Albania, the film unfolds over the course of 36 hours. A young Orthodox boy, whose parents have been killed in an attack by a fascist paramilitary unit, finds refuge in the home of a complete stranger: Nur Doka, an Albanian man with whom he shares neither language, faith, nor blood. Faced with a profound moral dilemma, Nur must decide whether to hand the child over to his persecutors, betraying the centuries-old code of his household, or to risk the lives of his own family in order to protect a stranger and uphold his honor.
