As We Are Dreaming deals primarily with the growing up of a group of boys in anarchic, transitional times in the former East Germany, with flashbacks to their socialist-tinged childhood. The especially interesting about this film is that we are not looking at a portrait of Berlin, whose eastern part very quickly transitioned to a western state of consciousness, but of Leipzig, where the transition was both slower and more anarchic.
