Serbian premiere of HOLD ME RIGHT by Danijela Štajnfeld at the 27th Palić

Documentary HOLD ME RIGHT by Danijela Štajnfeld will be premiered in Serbia at the Palić European Film Festival, held from September 12 to 18 this year. This achievement is in the New European Documentaries program at the Palić Festival as a special screening, invited by the program director of the festival, Miroslav Mogorović.

HOLD ME RIGHT is a documentary about the suffering of victims and perpetrators of sexual violence, based on the intimate testimonies of sexual assault victims. The film combines the testimonies of sexual assault victims and sequences from their later lives, asking when they can be considered recovered persons.

The author of the film, Danijela Štajnfeld, draws her strength from empathy because, as a young actress in Serbia, she was a victim of sexual violence. After losing the opportunity to speak freely about the attack she experienced, she gathered the courage to share her story with others who have gone through similar experiences through the process of meeting and interviewing. While anger and fear distract us from the necessary conversations about all aspects of sexual violence, the film HOLD ME RIGHT focuses on the extreme harmfulness of hiding the truth and shows how to continue living after a sexual assault.

Since victims of sexual assault often face a lack of understanding and mistrust, many choose to remain silent about what they had experienced. None of us wants to believe that these heinous crimes are happening in our homes, schools, workplaces and communities. HOLD ME RIGHT reveals the price of this silence.

In the era of the #MeToo movement, anger and fear prevent the necessary dialogues related to both sides of abuse. HOLD ME RIGHT helps us understand sexual assault, humanizing both perspectives. This film wants to normalize the conversation about abuse in order to stop the cycle of shame and violence.

The selection New European Documentaries was introduced at the festival program last year and brings the best documentaries, a film form that is attracting more and more audience and critics attention. According to the programer of this program unit, Igor Toholj, what still inspires and intrigues us are "personal authorial worlds, often clothed in intimacy that overcomes the dominant and aggressive media image of the modern world - especially when it comes to films marked by female sensibility." adding that this year's program includes just such films.

The program director of the European Film Festival Palić, producer Miroslav Mogorović, is currently arranging the arrival of the director Danijela Štajnfeld in order to present the film to the audience and media.

The film HOLD ME RIGHT will be screened on September 18 at 5:30 pm in the Abazija Cinema in Palić.
