The film On the Adamant won the Golden Bear at this year's Berlinale. This is a portrait of the Adamant, a day-care center for people with mental disorders. Located on the right bank of the Seine, right next to the Charles de Gaulle bridge, this ship is a safe harbor for people with mental disorders from the first 4 arrondissements of Paris. It seems somewhat unreal that the French have given up part of the coast to an institution that does not bring in any income and deals with people who would be invisible in any other system. Adamant offers them what they need most, and that’s daily routine. Psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, special educators, psychomotor specialists and various other art therapists work on it. The film follows several users and in a very gentle way introduces viewers to their lives, problems, joys, doubts, and talents. It is an emotional record of people for whom seemingly simple daily care such as sewing, painting or cooking jam means survival and life. Back to...
