The Golden Tower for the Best Film goes to the Norwegian film the Worst Person in the World by Joachim Trier

At the final press conference of the 28th Palić European Film Festival, on June 23 at the Great Terrace, were announced the winners of the Golden Tower Award for Best Film, the Palić Tower Award for Best Director, the Special Mention for the Main Competition Program, the Best Film Award in the Parallels and Encounters section, Special Mention from the Critics' Jury and the FIPRESCI Jury Award, which are to be presented at the closing ceremony of the Festival.

The international jury of the 28th European Film Festival Palić 2021, held in Palić and Subotica from 17 to 23 July 2021, composed of: film critic Klaus Eder (Germany), actress Minja Peković (Serbia), film director Jovan Arsenić (Germany), film director Christos Nikou (Greece) and film director Daria Onyshchenko (Ukraine), awards the Golden Tower to the film The Worst Person in the World by Joachim Trier "for the mastership of using all elements of cinema to profoundly explore the psychology of human relations in the modern society". The Palić Tower for the Best Director goes to Ferit Karahan, for Directing Brother’s Keeper, a film realized in a Turkish-Romanian co-production. The jury explained that they awarded director "for the sensitive way in which he unfolds the social situation in Eastern Turkey". The jury awards Special Mention to the British production The Mauritanian directed by Kevin Macdonald, “For Tahar Rahim acting performance and for Kevin Macdonald direction that made us feel the sufferance of prisoners in Guantanamo.“The jury evaluated this year's Official Selection as an excellent program.

The International Jury of Critics of the 28th European Film Festival Palić, composed of: film critic Ana Šturm (Slovenia), film critic Dominik Sobolewski (Poland) and film critic Suzana Zlatanović (Serbia), after viewing 12 films from Parallels and Encounters competition program made the unanimous decision - Critics Jury Award goes to Nun of Your Business By Ivana Marinić Kragić. "The main award in Parallels & Encounters section goes to formally daring, thematically challenging but also inspiring, warm and funny film that deeply resonated with us. This is a story about the power of love, but also a story about immense amount of courage – courage to stand up to institutions that still – so often – form and define our lives, a courage to stand out for ourselves, for our rights, our desires, our love and our freedom(s). This film is important as a bold piece of art, but it is even more important as a message from the people for the people. And the message is: who I am and how I live my life is Nun of Your Business.", stated the International Jury of Critics. Critics Jury Special Mention goes to A Boy by Vitaly Akimov - “The jury would like to give a special mention to brutally honest and deeply personal film that cut deep into our guts, and also our hearts – something that only great films, and filmmakers are able to do. Even though this is the very first film that the director ever made, there are some glimpses of genius that only great masters of cinema possess. To have the courage to look straight into the abyss of the pain, misery and fragility of human experience and the ability of transforming that into art is truly exceptional. This small and at the same time very big film also tells us something important about the power of art: art saves lives.”

The FIPRESCI Jury of the 28th European Film Festival Palić, composed of: Andoni Iturbe Tolosa (Spain), Dinu-Ioan Nicula (Romania) and Barbara Gasser (Austria) assigned the FIPRESCI Award for the Best Film in the Official Selection to The Worst Person in the World by Joachim Trier “for bitter and refreshing study of characters, which puts under the focus the condition of the contemporary woman as an insecure, but empowered subject, in the frame of a visionary post-romantic film.”
