Sections New European Documentaries and Eco Documentaries at the 29 th European Film Festival Palić

As part of the 29 th European Film Festival Palić, which takes place this year from 16 to 22 July in Palić and Subotica, start selections New European Documentaries, which brings the best documentaries from the European continent, as well as Eco Dox, a programmme based on European documentaries dedicated to the challenges of environmental protection. The programmer of both sections is Igor Toholj.

Section New European Documentaries presents films "For The Many" by Austrian director Constantin Wulf, "If You Are a Man" (Simone Panay, France), "Turn Your Body to the Sun" (Allona Van Der Horst, The Netherlands), and Untold Story of Fatma Kayaci ”(Orhan Tekeoglu, Turkey).

Igor Toholj says about this selection: "The gloomy geopolitical future of our continent is certain. The focus of the directors of the European documentaries is, in addition to this, directed towards universal and still insufficiently exploited topics, such as the exploitation of the underage labor force, social justice, and the issue of individual freedoms outside the collective. From debutants to acclaimed authors, this section instructs us to, just as the title of Allona Van Der Horst's film says, turn our body and gaze to the sun, to see more clearly the outlines of the future through the prism of the past. In our recent history, these two have always been intertwined.

Eco Dox section presents the works "This is our house" (Lamia Šabić, Diogo Pereira and Luciano Perez Savoy, Bosnia and Herzegovina), "All of Our Heartbeats Are Connected Through Exploding Stars" (Jennifer Rainsford, Sweden), "From the Wild Sea" (Robin Petre, Denmark), “Monobloc” (Hauke Welder, Germany), “The Mushroom Speaks” (Marion Neumann, Switzerland).

Igor Toholj explained his choice for the Eco Dox program with the folowing words: "Very current environmental topics take an important place in this program this year as well. There are various ways and stylistically diverse approaches in which the authors of the documentaries pointed out the seriousness and unsustainability of the current situation. In the meantime, some distant phenomena have become a part of our closest environment and everyday life. From surface mines that threaten human habitats, to the essential issues of human nutrition, endangered species of wildlife in the oceans, to the stylized documentary essay " All of Our Heartbeats Are Connected Through Exploding Stars ", title that sublimates the importance of awareness of the universal nature of life on Earth as an important part of the creative effort to point out the drama of the moment in which we live through the form of a documentary film.

During the pre-festival program and the central part of the event, the audience will be presented with more than 130 films from all over the Europe, in 15 different sections and program units. Most of the films have their Serbian and regional premiere here at Palić. In addition to the rich film program, the audience will be able to enjoy a number of dynamic accompanying contents - concerts, exhibitions, promotions, workshops and master classes.

European Film Festival Palić was supported by the Serbian Ministry of Culture, Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, the City of Subotica, the European Union through the Creative Europe MEDIA program, as well as numerous partners and media partners.

For more than 20 years sponsor - friend of the European Film Festival Palić is Gorki List, as an unavoidable part of our artistic scenography, but also a partner that encourages the engagement of the audience to explore the experiences of presented films through the Gorki List Audience Award. This year, the traditional cooperation will be extended to the music part of the Festival program.
